Monday's Mischief | Rain rain go away

Now don't get me wrong I love some aspects of winter. I mean what dog doesn't love to roll around is the wet and fluffy white stuff. Winter does come with some drawbacks though! Rain... and here in the UK we get it in bucket loads!

Rain can only mean one thing... no walkies! Not because my mum doesn't like getting wet and is a seasonal dog walker, but because I just don't like getting wet! End of!

The weather can be a funny thing though! One minute we leave the house to glorious sunshine, the next its raining cat and dogs (not literally of course).

Well that's exactly what happened today.

As soon as mum got my lead out of the draw I couldn't wait to get going. Everything was going great until I suddenly felt the first drop. I carried on for a while thinking it might only be a cup full or two! Next minutes it was more like a waterfall. I dropped my bum to the fall immediately and refused to move any further. Of course, I really hadn't thought this through. We were about 20 minutes away from home and there was no other way for me to get into the dry than walk!

For the next few minutes I made the walk home very difficult to show my utter disgust. A few yummy treats soon made me forgot about the wet stuff and back home we returned.

Mum dried me off and I was fast asleep in my bed in no time!

Does your dog like walking in the rain?

Product Review: Gor Pets - Flash Jack

We were lucky enough to receive a product from Gor Pets last week. They have a great range of toys called Gor Flex. A fun collection of toys that are made 'using TPR (thermoplastic rubber) which offers a superb combination of rubber and plastic to give a very tough and flexible toy.
Lottie was extremely excited once the postman had been, and could not wait to start sniffing the package to see what we got. We recieved the Gor Flex Flash Jack.
There is certainly no doubting, Lottie is your typical Westie in many senses, but when it comes to a game of fetch she suddenly transforms into a retrevier. She just loves it.
Here's what Gor Flex says about the Flash Jack:
The Flash Jack is the ideal toy for those darker evenings, just like the Flash Ball shake it and it Flashes; combined with the random motion the shape provides this toy will keep your dog on the go for hours!
Once I had finished my David Bailey act we could go outside and give it a try. We have a fairly big garden and Lottie loves to use the patio as her Olympic park. She has lots outdoor toys, with many of the big brands taking the fore front. So a toy which was centered around her favourite game of fetch has very high standards to meet, and meet it did!
Come on mum, can we play now?
Lottie loves it and took to it straight away. The material is different from her other toys but that certainly didn't mean she loved it any less. The uncontrollable bounce was definitely a big hit, as Lottie just couldn't keep up with it. It certainly helped to keep her interested for longer. The size is great for any dog as the shape of the toy makes it extra easier to hold, even I found it easier to throw than a normal tennis ball. Great for a novice thrower like me!
Lets go!
It clearly got the paws up from Lottie. She just didn't want to stop playing.
Verdict and where to buy.
We both love this toy and it has now taken its proud place in Lottie's outside toy box. Lottie's gives it a massive 5 out of 5 in her woof rating. It's a great alternative for a fetch of game, as well as a great chew toy (Lottie has chewed on its lots for a week without any signs of wear). So if you are looking for a great new toy to keep your dog entertained this is definelty worth purchasing.

Mum's Little Helper

As many of you will already be aware. Lottie is officially not an assistant dog, however this does not mean she cannot help me around the house (And believe me she does).

All the 'tricks' she knows I have taught her using the Clicker training method, which I will do another post on soon.

So far she can tidy her toys away,  pick items up off the floor and bring them to my hand, find and fetch my slippers from anywhere in the house, walk slowly on a lead when I tell her to (This comes in really handy down steep hills).

Training for us is very much on going and I don't take the approach of "We have finished the 6 week course, I have a perfectly trained dog".

As you can see in the video, Lottie is very eager to show of her new found skill!.

What ''Tricks' do you find the most useful to teach?
