Great Treats and Toys | Pet Shops Bowl Retailer Review.

What dog owner doesn't love a good bit of doggy retail shopping. I certainly do! So we were over the moon when Pet Shop Bowl wanted us to team up for a review.

Clearly Lottie couldn't wait to see what is inside
We revived lots of goodies!
So who are Pet Shop Bowl?
If like me you haven't heard of them before don't despair we have all the info you need right here! Here's what they have to say about the company.

PetShopBowl is a nationwide home delivery subscription service to pet food. We are a young company with a team of friendly, helpful staff dedicated to saving you time and money. All of our staff are pet owners so we understand the needs of other pet parents.
They have an easy to use website and like most original pet companies stock a vast range of product even including a 99p store great for those on a budget. However, the option you don't get with most 'original ' pet companies is their unique concept known as Bottomless Bowl which is offered at the checkout.
We all have a busy lifestyle, its unfortunately just the way of the world these days. If like me you are trying to juggle full time study, a work placement and taking care of your dog, you will know what a challenge that can be! This is where Bottomless Bowl comes in. Now Lottie isn't a huge eater and our vet says some smalls dog simply aren't, but if like a friend of ours you have a Labdorder you life will be very different. Food, they just can't get enough of the stuff. Several times she has had to go out in the wet and windy night time weather, to pop out to a convenience store to fetch some dog food as she has run out. This need not be the case anymore - Bottomless Bowl is a simple reordering service. They understand all dogs have a different appetite so offer any frequency from 2 - 12 weeks. But I hear you ask, what if there is a price increase ,well there's no hidden price rises. If the price of a product that you have subscribed to happens to increase, they will contact you to make sure that you still want to continue with your subscription, it really is that simple! They offer free UK delivery on all orders over the value of £19.99, as well as using a courier service which means you can change delivery time or day to whenever suits you best (When we were expecting our delivery I changed it to the next day with no hassle whatever so ever!).
Gone are the days of standard computers instead we live in a world of smartphones and tablets, Pet Shop Bowl realise this and have created a handy app that can be downloaded on both IOS and Android app stores so you can place an order from any mobile device. If your If like me and your mobile phone is so often in your hand it might as well be glued there, this app will definitely be worth a download.
So what did we receive in our huge goody box?
Medium red Kong Classic (£7.13) Before I had even brought Lottie home all our doggy friends were telling me you MUST buy a Kong, now we understand why. It has been our savour! It was great to keep Lottie occupied as a puppy and even now as an adult dog. We also use it every time I leave her home alone and have had no separation anxiety issues. If you are a dog owner are not familiar with a Kong, where have you been? Kong's come in several different sizes and strengths (All of which Pet Bowl Shop sell) so are suitable for most breeds. It's a hollow cone shaped dog toy that can be stuffed with all sorts of treats and pastes to keep your dog occupied, they can also be frozen to give them an extra challenge.
Lily's Kitchen Grain- Free Wild Woodland Walk Dry Dog Food 1kg (£6.49) We love Lily's kitchen in this house and Lottie has two of her bedtime biscuits each night. We knew they did a range of healthy dog treats but wasn't aware they sold dry dog food. This variety is made using freshly prepared vension, duck and salmon from the Great British countryside together with healthy vegetables and botanical herbs. It's also a grain- free recipe which is ideal for doggies with sensitives. I used it as treats for Lottie's clicker training session, as its not a good idea to change a dogs food suddenly. The results were great and Lottie loved it, she couldn't wait for the treat and worked extra hard to get the next piece! The range also includes a puppy variety, they both come in a wide range of flavors so there will sure be something to suit every taste bud. The full range can be found here.
Almo Nature Daily Menu (375g Pack, £0.90). For Lottie's every day meals we tend to stick to a dry dog food, as the Westie breed can become quite messy around the face area which can lead to sores on their lips. This doesn't mean we don't use wet dog food. As ed above I give Lottie a Kong every time I go out and by using treats it can soon add up the calories. I then heard of a great tip from a doggy friend. Why not use wet food and freeze it, this is what we do now so I get through a lot! We haven't heard of Almo Nature before but after some research it reads a better wet dog food than the one we currently use. Don't let the price hinder you exceptions on quality it has up to 50% premium meats, fresh vegetables and no artificial flavors, additives or preservatives. The packaging is a handy, easy to open Tetra Pak which once opened easily fits in your fridge door helping to save on shelf space.

Lottie isn't a verygood traveler and suffer from car sickness. With age this hasimproved but unless she is traveling in her car crate in theboot we have still have a very sicky dog! These bones size treats areideal for stressful situations such as a visit to the vet,car journeys, fireworks etc. On our next trip out I decided to testthe treats to see if Lottie's behavior was any different duringthe journey. I gave her 8 of the bones as they are really low incalories at just 3.5 per treat. The results were quite amazing, she definitely seemed more relaxed duringthe journey and lay down quite happily until we arrived. These biscuits are full of goodness, they are handbaked, gluten free and include lamb, calamine which helpsaid relaxation as well L-tryptophan which gives you the 'feel good'factor. They also come in a range of flavors which all contain activeingredients for a specific purpose. See the full range here.
Our Verdict.
We think Pet Shop Bowl is a great idea ,they offer competitive prices on all of their products as well as a huge range to choose from. Don't forget they also stock products for dog and cats, as well a range of great quality toys, bedding, accessories and grooming products. The Bottomless Bowl feature is a great added bonus and is particularly helpful for people like myself with mobility problems. There company is based on old fashioned morals of great customer service, great prices as well as always wanting to put your pet first. What more could you possibly ask for. There handy app is a great additional to anybody's mobile device, including mine!

Yummy Treats and Chews | Green and Wilds Product Review.

Food, I just can't get enough of the stuff what doggy doesn't love something yummy! Therefore I was really exicted to receive some new yummy treats and chews for me to review from the newly named Green and Wilds. What dog doesn't love receiving present.

Who are Green and Wilds?
You may have noticed their new name popping up on their online shop and labels? With lots of great new natural products coming along, they wanted a name to embrace this, the old "Antler Dog Chews" name just didn’t cut the mustard! So they changed it. We say what a great idea and much prefer their new name, it definitely makes the products sound more natural. Green and Wilds is an independent business that supplies healthy, natural, unprocessed, completely sustainable dog chews, hand baked luxury dog biscuits and natural eco toys. The company is based on solid ideological beliefs, run on ethical principles by ethical and caring people. They are committed to looking after our planet and living in a world where we treat others as we would like to be treated. They produce chews from whole antlers, naturally shed from healthy, free ranging deer and hold large stocks so no animal are ever harmed for the chews. All their chews are free from chemicals, preservatives, colouring and additives, just pure and natural as nature intended.
The goodies we recieved.
We really are not keen on rawhide in this house so are always looking a tasty alternative. Hence we have brought many antler chews before. We haven't however tried there brand new range of baked treats. Training is such a big part of mine and Lottie life we are always on the look on for some new training treat, luckily for us they sent us a box of their brand new Salmon and Kelp Training Treats as well as some Carrot and Apple bakes, a medium original antler and a fallow strip. I was one very lucky dog! Firstly the baked treats, they are all wheat, preservative and artificial flavour free, and have no added salt and sugar. Only natural ingredients are used. They come in two varieties which are both avabibale in two sizes small as training treats and a larger size as a dog biscuit. They both come in two flavours, Apple and Carrot and Salomn and Kepl.
Antler Bakes Dog Biscuit , Apple and Carrot (£3.29) - these wholesome biscuit are baked in the UK with love and are free from all the nasties, NO shameful flavourings, flavour sprays or preservatives, no artificial colourings, sugar or salt added just wholesome ingredients that dogs love. So not only do they taste great they are also great for your dogs health. They contain the famous Green and Wilds ground antler powder as well as a great mix of other naturals ingredients including carrots, apple, parsley, rosemary, garlic these have a range of health benefits including improving your dogs circulation and metabolism as well as reducing cholesterol. They are also high in minerals and nutrients which can help strengthen bone structure, muscles and joints, maintain healthy cells aiding the immune system as well as helping to prevent inflammation from arthritic conditions. After a ruff day give your friend a treat, you know they're woof it!
Dog Bicuits on the left, Training Treats on the right.
Dog biscuits on the left, training treats on the right.
Crunchy Baked Training Treats, Salomn and Kelp (£2.79) - it's not just the dog biscuits that have all those added health benefits these great sized training treats do too. Containing carrots which is a great source of vitamins A and E which are great for healthy skin they are sure to keep your dogs coat looking great. They also contain salmon, kelp, flax seed and rosemary. As a result these training treats can help bad breath, are high in fibre and are a excellent source of Omega 3 and 6 fish oils. If your going to use clicker training to train your dog why not treat them with the healthiest training treats around.
Essentials Antler Dog Chew, small (£6.59) - These chews are 100% natural, long lasting, are fantastic for teeth and full of great minerals for good health. Vets recommend them and dogs just love them, finding them exciting and irresistible. Being a totally natural product, it's free from additives, colours and preservatives, it's hypoallergenic, low odour and non-sticky too! All chews are hand washed and cut and then sand finished on all edges. Size - medium is suitable for medium sized breeds from Cocker Spaniels to Border Terriers. It will be around 11cm long, depending on circumference and density of the antler. Other sizes available include medium, large and x large.
Fallow Antler Dog Chew (£5.08) - These softer superior antler chews are great for older puppies and softer chewers (Particulary breeds such as Westie's who tend to be soft chewers). These chews have the same added benefits as the original antler chew as they contain a number of good minerals and are long lasting. All their Antler chews are from naturally shed/dropped, sustainable, free ranging, deer antler, 100% guaranteed.
  • Verdict and Where to Buy.
Two main focuses in our household are training and weight, both of which are not a problem with these great products. They are high value so Lottie will work extra hard in training as well as been low in fat. We also says a BIG no no to rawhide so are always on the look out for a tasty alternative that aren't high in fat, both chews are an ideal alternative to the dreaded sloppy rawhide. The training treats and biscuits Lottie's loves. The apple and carrot dog biscuits smell extra yummy and are almost good enough for me to eat (although I did resist, I don't think Lottie would of been to impressed). We find a lot of high value treats often leave a lot to be desired in there ingredients but as these are all 100% natural we love them!
Lottie gives all the goodies that were provided a big 5 out of 5 woofs, they are also at a great low price and for the biscuit and training treats offer a variety of four boxes for the great price of £11.99 what more could you possible ask for! All of the great goodies are available on Green and Wilds website and they offer free delivery for orders over £39. They also sell to trade so you may find them in your local pet store, vets and farmers market and all manners of traders.

Wordless Wednesday - almost | Mud Run

It's Wednesday which can only mean one thing - doggy play at the park! Lottie had her usual fun and really came out of her shell. She interacted with the other dogs more and even tired to keep up with them when they were enjoying a game of fetch. She also went into the water which unfortunately meant she looked more like a Scottie dog when she came out. This lead to a dreaded B as soon as we got home, needless to say Lottie wasn't to impressed but certainly looked more like a Westie afterwards.

Here's a few photos from our fun day out:

Pretty in Pink Thanks to a New Dog Collar | Salt Dog Studios Product Review

It's an all girl household here so EVERYTHING just has to be pink and very girly! We always find it really difficult to buy 'pretty' collars as our local pets stores only stock the plain boring ones! When Salt Dog Studios wanted us to team up for a review opportunity we were both over the moon. They stock a gorgeous range of collar, leads, bandanas and much more.
So what's the story behind Salt Dog Studios? Well, they are a small family run business based in Whitstable, Kent right here in the UK. They design handmade products using the highest quality fabrics, and strive for only the best for your pet. They offer a great customer service, for a very affordable price.
Lottie certainly isn't your average size Westie (what's normal anyway, we always say). She is a little on the small size, meaning we normally struggle to find collars and harnesses that fit like glove. So we were both thrilled to discover that Salt Dog Studio collars are all handmade to order giving you the perfect fit to any size dog! It's so nice to think they made the collar especially for Lottie, it gives it that personalised feel you would struggle to sense in a big pet superstore. I was taken aback with the outstanding customer service and care I recieved for a product for review. They handmade Lottie's collar, perfected the size so it fits her like a glove, let us choose which design we would like (this was definitely the hardest decision, they are all gorgeous) and even wrote us a handwritten note. All this from a small family run company is hard to believe! Something some of the big retailers could definitely learn from.
For review we choose the stunning Pink Gracke Fabric Dog Collar. From the moment we opened the wrapping, well Lottie did (she got a little bit too excited and ripped it before I could even take a photo) I was impressed' the packaging certainly didn't let this high quality product down and it gave it just that little extra touch. The collar itself was velvet lined inside, with a beautiful pattern on the front. It has a larger D ring than Lottie's previous collar which I find extra helpful as I can sometimes struggle to attach her lead to her old one. We took it for a quick test spin around the block and it soon came apparent that it was one tough cookie, partly down to its webbing core, so we won't be needing a replacement any time soon. As if that wasn't good enough it also washable at 30 degrees, which can really come in handy if your dog is like Lottie and loves to roll in really anything smelly.
All there collars come in a range on sizes, widths and styles. As well as fabric, they also do ribbon and hemp collars so they really do cater for any taste. They can also customise collars into half checks, or add different buckles on to suit your needs. Not sure of the size you require, don't worry, they will be more than happy to help with any sizing queries too.
The particular collar they sent me in Lottie's size is £17.99. They cater for all different sizes and prices range from £9.99 for extra small upwards.
After a full weeks use we were so impressed with this beautiful collar I have decided to purchase the matching lead. We can't wait for it to arrive, so we can definitely walk in style.

Wordless Wednesday - almost | Doggy play date.

Recall is vital for all dog owners and it's something that most struggle with, us included. We have been working really hard over the last few months to improve Lottie's recall. She is great when it's just us with very few distraction, but put another dog into the mix and I might as well be shouting to myself. Lottie is improving though and today we meet up with some old doggy friends who we used to go to training class with for a doggy play date

I let Lottie off and she came back when called 90% of the time and actually seemed better when there were other dogs around. As recall is such a tricky command for so many dog owners. I will soon be running a series of posts around recall, including the best tips, how to teach a reliable recall as well as the common misconceptions.

We love to share ideas so please comment below with your best tips for a great recall.

Here are a few photos from today's adventure.
